Perryton, TX, January 28, 2015: Eighth Grader Alex Battin was the winner of the Ochiltree Senior Spelling Bee Wednesday afternoon at Perryton Junior High. Sixth Grader Jocelyn Medina finished in second place. Battin will now advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in Amarillo.
Contestants from sixth, seventh and eighth grade competed along with one fifth grader, Jonathan Alaniz, the winner of last week’s Junior Spelling Bee, who took third place. Jocelyn Araujo placed fourth, Madison Attaway was fifth and Nash Stewart finished Sixth.
The top six all received cash prizes along with coupons and other donated items from several local businesses. PJH Librarian, Ruth Ann Noe served as pronouncer for the event with Ruth Schoenhals, Angela Campbell and Doug Shelton serving as judges.
